Lyminge Family History & Research Group
The Group has not met since the start of Covid. Regrettably no one has come forward to lead this group since the last gentleman who ran it stood down and it has therefore ceased to exist.
What they did – Family History
Over the first ten years the group met to share sources of information, discussed a variety of topics and assisted each other in our own family history research. Subsequently at its meetings, members discussed any new research websites located and also helped with a number of one-off queries.
What they did – Local History Research
The Group latterly primarily acted as a research source for the LHS. Local history projects were undertaken both for Lyminge Library displays and the LHS’s Lyminge a History series of publications. Two stalwarts have been producing displays for the Lyminge Historical Society in Lyminge Library, 30 to date. In 2022 they included The Mousetrap at 70; the 35th Anniversary of the Library at the former Railway Station; the 100th Anniversary of the BBC; the 70th Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth 11; the history of Winnie the Pooh; and sadly, the commemoration of Queen Elizabeth 11 following her death in 2022.
The final display for 2022 concerns Christmas and Winter Season Poems by the local Poetry Group.
Our Resources
The Group met in Lyminge Library where 2 computers were accessible to the Internet and K.C.C. Library’s Learning Reference and Resource with its Family History Resources including Ancestry and Find my Past sites. The LHS archives were also available.
